Visions Orientation

The Visions Training Series is the required training for all Domiciliary Home (DD Dom) caregivers and Adult Foster Home (AFH) caregivers in the State of Hawaiʻi.

First developed in 1994 and revised in 2010, Visions is now relaunched as an online training series as a result of an ongoing partnership between the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Health – Developmental Disability Division (DDD) and the University of Hawaiʻi – Center on Disability Studies (CDS).

With Visions, DDD supports the professional development of AFH and DD Dom caregivers. Visions helps to ensure that new and current caregivers can demonstrate the desired competencies and meet the expectations for licensed/certified caregivers.

Each course in Visions is grounded in person-centered approaches. Person-centered supports puts the individual at the center of their own decision-making and in control of their life trajectory. This means a person identifies and pursues what they think is most important in their life and is supported to take steps towards those pursuits.

There are three sections that make up the Visions Training Series:

Introduction to Working with the Target Population (Course 2, 3)
Pre-Service Provision Fundamentals (Course 4, 5)
Service Provision Fundamentals (Course 6, 7, 8, 9, 10)

Courses

Certification

Those seeking the Visions certification will need to take each course in sequential order. Each course has required multiple choice quizzes associated with the lessons and topics of the course. Each multiple choice quiz requires a score of 100% in order to move on to the next section of the course. There is also a summary multiple choice quiz at the end of each course. The summary quiz is a cumulative quiz which covers the most important information from the course. Along with the summary quiz, there is a required reflection prompt that must be completed prior to completing the course.

Once you successfully complete a course, you will get a certificate of completion. You can find each earned certificate on each course homepage or on your profile.
